Fashions of the Future as Imagined in 1893

Illustrations from “Future Dictates of Fashion” by W. Cade Gall that was published in the January 1893 issue of The Strand magazine.

At first I thought this was some “fashion of witches and wizards through the ages” type thing but nah everyone is supposed to dress like this. I wish everyone dressed like this.

nailed it

Not a shabby prediction.

Fake(Forced Perspective) -
Dead Jungle Centipede Vietnam - Posted on Reddit(and other places) by mayorofcheeseville claiming that this is a picture of his dad holding a 10” long Centipede(He states this in the comments). That would be possible if as he says it is being dangled by a string closer to the camera by one of his buddies.(forced perspective) Maybe a Scolopendra subspinipes. Could it be two centipedes tied together? (Thanks to @Tricia Leach Sheeran for the input)

I doubt it’s real, however, every centipede that I ever encountered in Hawaii appeared that big in my head.
Fucking things are awful. You can’t smash them because they flatten out. They’re super fast and if you’re lucky enough to cut one in half with your e-tool, you now have two halves running around you. They bite. Holy fuck do they bite. We were training in the Kahukus for a field problem and while our platoon was in a patrol base, one of those motherfuckers decided to crawl inside my patrol bag. It made his presence known to me by biting my leg. I have yet to feel pain like that again. it felt like lightning bolts and fire shooting up to my brain. I started to panic because I thought their poison was lethal which made the pain worse. He was probably only 6 or 7 inches, but he might as well have been 10 feet long.
It did get me a trip back to the battalion aid station where I got painkillers and stuff to reduce the swelling. Thankfully I wasn’t allergic.
Centipedes and I are mortal enemies.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

There was a split second there where his like, “wait, what? bro what are you doing?”
On more serious note, PTSD dogs for veterans are so fucking therapeutic. They’re like the one person you can spill your guts to and never worry about ever being judged or have that secret divulged. There are times when I definitely prefer the company of a dog over a human.

Nothing but respect to these heroes. Motivation to do great and courageous things with my service too.
